Hi community agencies, partners and neighbors!
Event: BLOCK PARTY AUGUST 9, 2018
Location: Across the street from the Clarksburg Mission
Time: 9am – 2pm
Homes For Harrison is gearing up for another Block Party! We are reaching out to all of our neighbors, partners and community agencies and requesting your participation!
Our goal is to make available all of the resources that we are aware of that will be beneficial for homeless and at-risk individuals and families. In the past we have successfully signed individuals up for programs while they are at the Block Party!
The purpose of having a Block Party is to allow those in need to come to us, versus us visiting their homeless locations or their units they are possibly being evicted from. Sometimes it is more comfortable for them to come to us.
Please RSVP by August 2, 2018 to Melinda.Bibbee@va.gov
PS-Bring your own table and chairs!
Homes For Harrison County is inviting residents to join them for their annual sleep-out on the night of August 9th, 2018. The purpose of the sleep-out is to raise homelessness awareness in Harrison County and to raise funds to assist families and individuals that are experiencing homelessness in Harrison County.
Registration is $25 a person and any additional donations are gladly accepted at the campsite. Business owners are encouraged to sponsor a member from your business to participate in this life-changing event. All proceeds go to Homes For Harrison County to help those who are experiencing homelessness in Harrison County or at risk of becoming homeless.
Homes for Harrison County's "One Homeless Night" is a sleep-out event created to raise awareness about homelessness in Harrison County. Residents are invited to spend one homeless night to gain a better understanding of what it is like to be without a home. It is also an opportunity for our community to come together to recognize the homeless problem in Harrison County.
In the past, participants would have the option of visiting local agencies the following day so that they could experience the struggles and difficulties that homeless citizens face, such as receiving health care, getting food, and housing.
However, this year we are going to have a Block Party and an Outreach Search to reach out to those families and individuals that are experiencing homelessness in Harrison county to provide them with information and invites to the Block Party.
The Block Party will allow those in need to come to us to access resources, which will eliminate some of their barriers and help them gain access to housing and other resources. Helping homeless citizens obtain housing creates the stability a person needs to maintain positive growth and saves tax payers money by reducing the amount of public services used.
The sleep-out (tent site) will take place in the vacant lot off of Chestnut Street as you are entering route 50 in Clarksburg. If you need more information please contact Stephanie Sumpter at 304.669.9202 Or Nichole Layfield at 304.677.7580.
